In case you haven’t seen it, this is the very first image to be uploaded to the web, according to CERN. It was uploaded 22 years ago today, on July 18th, 1992.
The band, Les Horribles Cernettes, dubbed “the one and only high energy rock band,” was created by graphic designer Michele Muller and computer scientist Silvano de Gennaro—both working for CERN at the time. They sang love songs about quarks, colliders, liquid nitrogen, antimatter, and other topics related to science, technology, and quantum physics.
The Cernettes had no idea they would go down in history for reasons other than music.

Campaign Monitor has been a leader in the filed of email administration/reporting for a very long time. Bunker’s own Mark Wyner was even helping them with research and education back in the olden days. They have proven to be innovators in this arena, and continue to be forward thinkers with the introduction of their new HTML email template builder, “Canvas.”

It’s a game changer in design/development in the arena of HTML emails. We believe professionals and laymen alike will find this tool useful. It’s quick, easy, and builds with solid markup that’s sure to delight many charged with the task of email communication.

Soccer ball inflation impacts the performance on play. But most of us amateur soccer players aren’t knowledgable about how to achieve a solid inflation. Especially for varying conditions such as practice versus game play.

BallTune is an iOS/Android mobile app that can provide feedback on a ball’s inflation level just by listening to it. Run the app, drop the ball, gauge the inflation level. Brilliant. Now go get your World Cup post-performance on.

Much of the design of characters, creatures, worlds, and machines in the Star Wars trilogy is owed to the masterful illustrations of Ralph McQuarrie. In 2012, after the death of Ralph, StarWars.com published a delightful gallery of his illustrations from A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.
We can thank Ralph for much of what we see in our minds when we think about the trilogy. Thank you, Mr. McQuarrie.

It’s World Cup 2014 week, people. In celebration of the occasion Bunker will be publishing a collection of World Cup memorabilia each day until the kickoff between Brazil and Croatia. Today we continue with the World Cup balls from 1930–2010*.
Want full size photos of these balls in the form of a book? All but the 2014 Brazuca are available in a book called The World Cup Balls, put together by author Lars Reichardt, photographer Jens Heilmann, and designer Gunther Weis. René Sopp is the owner of the ball collection.
*Note the omissions for the 1942 and 1946. These two World Cups were cancelled because of World War II.

This is delightful World Cup marketing. For their “Risk Everything” campaign, Nike envisions a world dominated by perfection that clones soccer stars without adventure in the game of soccer. This animation short features Wayne Rooney, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, David Luis, Cristiano Ronaldo, Iniesta, Frank Ribery, and…USNMT rock star keeper, Tim Howard!
